The Historical Connection.

A way of analyzing a book, just as how I have been asked, could be to analyze it in the historical sense. What this means is that you can take the character the setting and anything else that has to do with the book and connect it with something that has happened historically during that time or in the past. For example, the beliefs that Jan describes in the book can be historically connected to the Communist beliefs. This can also be connected with the beliefs that Richard Wright has. So in other words, what happens in this book, or in any other book at that, can have a historical connection in one way or another.

Good explanation of historical analysis approach.

Which book? Be sure to be specific. Also, explain a bit more about who Jan is and how he reflects the history of the time.

Finally, if you connect the book the the writer's belief, then wouldn't that be a more of a biographical interpretation, rather than historical?
