Theory on Feminism

I think feminism comes from all over but, is more commonly seen in Hispanic families. Most of Mexican men have in their head that they can control woman and treat them like an object. Mexican fathers treat their sons and daughters so differently. Boys can get away with a lot but, girls are some what force to fallow the rules. They also use their strength to control woman. You see feminism all over. Men don’t think woman are capable of surviving without them. They think a woman are suppose to stay home and do the cooking, cleaning, and taking care of children while they work. Which being a woman has nothing to do with it. Women have accomplished so much in the past but don’t take credit for it.
A woman can go out to the real world and do the same job as men if they set their mind to it. Luckily things have change and woman have proved they can survive with or without men. Even though you still see feminism a lot of things have change.

The Adventures of Kino, Juana, and Coyotito

The Pearl by John Steinbeck is basically about a man named Kino that is corrupted by greed and thanks to that greed his commits a lot of awful things like killing a man and hitting a female which should never be done. Steinbeck wrote this book to show us (humans) how easily humans can be corrupted by money and how many of us (humans) mistreated others just because they may not seem to be like us or they may be a different color, religion or race.

This book has two main themes one can be the corruption that money has on humans, this book mainly says that a human is never happy with what he or she has just like the narrator says “For it is said that humans are never satisfied, that you give them one thing and they want something more: “And this is said in disparagement, whereas it is one of the greatest talents the species has and one that has made it superior to animals that are satisfied with what they have”. Meaning that humans are not satisfied with what they have, humans always want more and more and this is what separates humans from animals because animals are happy with what they have. The other main theme is the Oppression of Native Cultures because the natives weren’t treated like regular human beings, they were treated as if they were animals that’s how the doctor in the Pearl sees them “‘Have I nothing better to do than cure insect bites for ‘little Indians? I am a doctor, not a veterinary’” the doctor thinks that just because Kino is an Indian his son does not deserve to be treated like any other baby that is not a native decedent.

This book fits into the genre of adventure because the story is mainly about Kino, his wife and their son that find a valuable pearl that every greedy man would like to have and once they find this pearl they go through a lot of adventures. The aspects of the genre that the Pearl uses are a lot of action like fighting and running away. I actually enjoyed the writing style that the book uses because it is very easy to read and there aren’t that many difficult words. The style of writing is so good that it gets you interested in the book really fast and I should know because I don’t really enjoy reading. The narrator’s voice sounds like his angry because he seems to focus more on the flaws that humans have.

I recommend this book to anyone that likes reading because it is an interesting book that will get you hooked once you start reading it. This book is so interesting that it won’t get anybody bored, so I think there isn’t anyone that should dislike the book. Overall I give this book a thumbs up because I really enjoyed the book and for me to enjoy a book is kind of hard.

Death of a Salesman B.R.

Death of a Salesman
Book Review

The book that I have finished reading was called Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. This book was mainly about a salesman named Willy Loman, who is struggling to maintain his career. The story is just a build up of how exactly he becomes crazy and eventually dies by his own hand. Other characters in the book are Happy and Biff, which are his two sons, and his wife Linda. She cannot face the fact that her husband is slowly becoming more and more insane as the story progresses.

One main theme in the story could be seeing Willy Loman as the victim, even though it is his own fault that he is going crazy. This could be called by forcefully making his wife not work and him being the only source of income in the household. Another reason could be that he does not want to let his sons leave and work outside of the house, as they could be competition and take over, as Willy sees it. He feels the need to be the one working for his family and especially for his sons, who are almost old enough to leave home.

I think that this book is written well. Arthur miller describes exactly how Willy is feeling in the moment. Since it is written in flashbacks, it gets a little bit confusing because it goes from one year to fifteen years ago so you don’t know exactly when it changes or when something is happening at the moment. This is how the book is based around. This is good reading because it adds a lot of suspense and you know what’s happening in his past. This is a book I do recommend.

Analyzing a Book

At times you are asked to analyze a book specially if you have a class called Literary Analysis. There are a lot ways to analyze a book you can start by reading the back of the book and give yourself an idea of what the book might be about, but remember the back of a book may not always tell the truth. For me the best way to analyze a book is by comparing and contrasting the past with the present, you can start by comparing some of the characters that were used in the book and compare them and contrast them with some of the people that exist today. You can also compare the type of life that people had back then and the type of life that people have today, for example I would compare the type of life that Bigger and his family had to the type of life that people of color have today. Then I would ask myself questions like does racism still exist today? and if it does how has it changed? or how is it still the same?. You can compare and contrast things like the setting and special events that existed back then and that today still exist. By doing this you will get a better view of the book your analyzing.

The Historical Connection.

A way of analyzing a book, just as how I have been asked, could be to analyze it in the historical sense. What this means is that you can take the character the setting and anything else that has to do with the book and connect it with something that has happened historically during that time or in the past. For example, the beliefs that Jan describes in the book can be historically connected to the Communist beliefs. This can also be connected with the beliefs that Richard Wright has. So in other words, what happens in this book, or in any other book at that, can have a historical connection in one way or another.
